Overall I believe that Susannah made the right choice by deciding to stay at home. Although, if she stayed with Callie and Eleanor in Boston she would be able to attend a great school and experience many new things such as tea parties and Abolitionist movement conferences, there are also plenty of draw backs. If she left home she would miss things like Sam and Miranda getting officially engaged or the twins learning to crawl. She would also feel terrible leaving Kate and not being home to help her mom with twins and around the house. So even though living in the Boston would provide Susannah many opportunities, it seems as then was not the right time for her. (Hannah Ryan)

I think that Susannah made the right choice for deciding to not go to Boston with Eleanor. It definitely sounded like a lot more fun; with Abolitionist meetings, tea parties, and a much better education. However she was a really big help to her family, and at this point in her life the smarter decision was to stay home. Her mother really was desperate in terms of getting more help for Janie and the twins, because her father and Sam were out doing chores on the farm and getting other outdoor things done. Some drawbacks about staying in Middleton were having to deal with helping to raise her younger siblings and staying at home working in the house, while the positives were staying to be with her best friend Kate and by being such a great help to everyone in the family.

I think that Susannah didn't make the right choice in staying because she had the opportunity to explore new places, and meet new people. She also had the opportunity to further her knowledge by going to a different school. Susannah always seemed to me to want to see the world and to explore, like when she thought about the ocean when she dusted the sea shells. But I believe that she didn't go because leaving the place that she called home was out of her comfort zone and therefore it was just easier for her to stay.

Susannah made the right choice by staying with her family, her family could always use as much help as they could get.Their was a lot going on in her family. She was still given a chance to go but she was thinking of her family just a little bit more which I think is important. With the twins growing up it is important for her to be with them and her sister which is finally talking a bit more. Going to Boston is a very good opportunity but she will be there soon enough. Shes a girl with her own thoughts and ideas, if she wants to go to Boston, she will go to Boston at sometime. Her ideas on slavery would've probably brought her to Boston anyway. She was also thinking of her friend Kate since she could'nt go. I am sure that Kate would understand but Susannah was also being thoughtful of her friends and family. By staying home she will be helping her family and also being there for the ones she loves. But she will also be missing out on being with her other friends in Boston. Also Susannah had never been to Boston which she could have with that opportunity but there will most likely be more opportunity's.
